My Two Blankets

by Irena Kobald

A young girl and her mother travel to a new land where everything seems strange—most of all, the language. Kobald deftly captures the confusion and sense of isolation. Blackwood’s evocative illustrations bring these characters to life and abstracts the “strange” words into symbols. When a little girl befriends her, and begins to teach her some words, the girl’s world slowly opens up. She finds comfort in her original “blanket” of words while she also learns to embrace the new one she is weaving!
